Rob Henning Wins the 2014 WGAT Masters

In the 3rd Annual WGAT Masters held at Hammock Bay Country Club in Marco Island Fl. West Florida’s member Rob Henning entered his first Major of his WGAT career.  In the toughest flight of the 4 flights Rob squeaked out a one stroke victory over fellow West Florida member Aleem Kahn. After round one it looked like Rob would run away with the event after he carded a three stroke lead over the field and an 8 stoke lead over Aleem. After 9 holes in the final round it was all but over with a 6 stoke lead but Aleem came on strong posting a gross 36 even par on the back nine to from Net Even par after 27 holes to end up at 8 under par 9 holes later. Robs day one lead meant to be to much.

Henning’s victory earned him 400 National Order of Merit points putting him in a tie for 24 place. Adam Reynolds who entered the event atop of the Standings finished in 17th place overall earning 221 points, just enough to maintain the lead by 30 points over Frank McInerney who finished in 11th place and earned 277.5 points. 

In the pursuit of his first major win Rob Hennings was also the money leader at the Masters winning at total of $1,728 in prizes and optional cash side games. His winning has catapulted him in to 2nd place on the National Player of the Year Standings just 202 points behind Rich McDaniel of the California Tour. 

Todd Eldredge
Flight One Champion
In Flight 1 2013 National Champion Todd Eldredge maintains his dominance in that flight by recording a one stoke victory over Greg McGraw. Eldrege who was in 5th place two strokes back of a four way tie at -2 of Greg MacGraw, Randy Bryant, Dan Anderson and Edwin Cohen. On day two Todd won by shooting a net -1 while all others were over par. Todds victory places in 14th place on the National Order of Merit and 5th place on the National Player of the year Standings.


Mark Thomas
Flight Two Champion
Flight 2 began a trend of past National Champions shining on the biggest stage. 2011 National Champion Mark Thomas who was in a three way tie at net +4 with Tyler Mason and Doug Boler after day one. However as both Tyler and Doug went + 3 on two bettering thier score by one, Mark recorde a net - 4 winning by 7 strokes. Marks victory puts him in 8th place on the National Order of Merit and 12th place for National Player of the Year.

Dan Souheaver
Flight 4 Champion
Flight 4 was a battle for 27 holes between Angela Walker and Dan Souheaver. Cat Turner 2013 National Champion was leading by 2 after day one at net -3 but by the third hole on day two Cat lost the lead to Angela Walker. Walker built her lead to two strokes when Dan Souheaver proceeded to go 8 net under par for next 14 holes recording a 4 stoke victory. Dan’s victory has put him in 5th place on the National Order of Merit and in 7th place for National Player of the Year. 

With the Masters 48 Player the WGAT is on pace to award two additional players to Team USA. Currently the Majors has 76 participants. With 160 needed to send a the second place National Order of Merit winner to South Africa the next three majors just has to average 28 players per major.

Frank McInerny
Low Net Champion
In the Pre Masters Challenge Michael Scarpuzzi won low gross at +10 and Frank McInerny won low Net at -2
