Eddie Stephens and Anders Bengtson Bounce Back on Day Two to Lead Team USA

Day two at the 2011 World Golfers Championship in South Africa was a day of good news/ bad news.
Good news- Team USA playing in the Invitational (2 person team) shot a team total of net 157, 8 stokes better then day one. Team USA playing in the Championship (5 person team) shot a team total of net 306, 21 strokes better then day one.
Bad News- Team USA in the Invitational did not gain any ground to the leaders and are still tied for 8th place. Pulse they lost 24 strokes to the leaders and are currently 46 strokes off the lead. Team USA in the Championship dropped 3 spots from 14th place to 17th place, and lost 19 stokes to the leaders which currently puts them 46 strokes off the lead.
The Invitational
Anders Bengtson
Anders Bengtson turned things around in round two to help Team USA stay in 8th place. Anders shot a net 75, 17 strokes better then day one with room for improvement for days three and four. Anders has jumped 6 spots in his flight from 13th place to 7th place and has gained 3 stokes on the new leader Indur Hirani from India.
Mary Hauk survived day two shooting a net 82 and loosing her 6 stoke lead to slip to 2nd place in her flight. She now is 4 strokes off the lead behind Inga Doetsch from Germany. Mary has a championship in her sights and can bring home a championship if she can shoot sub 90 rounds over the next two days.
With both Anders and Mary each having one good day they both are going to need to put it together at the same time for the next two days. Team Macau is currently 12 under and Team USA will need to match that effort to have a chance to win. A 2nd or 3rd place finish is very realistic, they are only 18 stokes back from 2nd.
The Championship

Eddie Stephens
The best USA performance of the tournament thus far was turned by Eddie Stephens who shot a net 70 on day two. Rebounding from his disappointing day one score and last place finish is his flight, not only has he lead his team in day two but he has vaulted 10 spots on the leaderboard in his flight to 16th place, along with gaining 5 strokes on the new leader Janus Horn from South Africa.
Robert Neal has a flight one world championship in his grasp. Robert is on his way to becoming the best golfer at the championships with his second back to back gross scores of 75 for net scores of 74. Robert is currently one stroke off the lead in a three way tie for third place behind N.Hung Tran from Vietnam and Joonas Makinen from Finland. Roberts two day gross total of 150 is five stokes better then the entire field of 200 players.

Mark Thomas for the second day in a row turned in the third best score for team USA. Mark shot a net 78, 3 strokes better then day one. This helped him creep up the leaderboard two spots to 11th place, but he has lost 4 strokes off the new co leaders Jurie Jerling from South Africa and Krishna Prasas from India. Mark still has a realistic chance at a World Championship, he has yet played to his potential and and is still with in striking distance. If Mark can shoot a gross 164 over the next two days like he did in the USA National Championship Mark will most likely medal.
The Forth and final score recorded for Team USA for day two was flight five member David Weatherspoon. David improved on day two by recording a net 84, 8 strokes better then day ones net 92. Regardless of Davids mass improvement he slipped in his flight 2 spots to 22nd place. David and Ivan Marin, who’s net score of 95 was Team USA “throw out score”  for day two, will be the key to USA bring home a medal.
Team USA has yet to record a net score in the 60’s which is holding them down in the standings. USA will need David and Ivan to shoot gross scores in the mid to low 90’s on both days to give USA the much needed net 60’s scores. Currently USA is averaging a net score of 79.125, Indonesia, the leaders are averaging 73.125. If USA can find a way to average 72.00 over the next two days they will have a realistic shot to medal.
